The perfect vegan soulfood for your next dinnerparty!

This recipe is all you need if you crave fast food. The crispy batter together with the chewy consistency of the mushrooms hits the spot every time!

Step 1

Prepare the mushrooms by cutting or ripping them into the desired size. Try to keep the clusters intact, if possible!

Step 2

Prepare your wet batter by combining all the listed ingredients. The wet batter shouldn't be too thick, so that you can really drench your mushrooms in it.

Step 3

Prepare your dry batter by combining the remaining ingredients.

Step 4

Piece by piece put your mushrooms into the wet batter first and make sure they're well covered, then transfer them into the dry batter until they're well-covered again.

Step 5

Put the battered mushrooms into your preheated frying oil (about 170°C) and fry them until golden brown and crispy.

Step 6

Let your mushrooms sit on a wirerack so they can drain any access oil.

Step 7

If you want your shroomies extra crispy you can give them a short second fry, but make sure not to burn them!

Ingredients

  • 500g of Oyster Mushrooms
  • 1 Liter of frying oil

For the dry batter:

  • 200g of all purpose flour
  • 150g of corn- or potato starch

For the wet batter:

  • 200g of all purpose flour
  • 300ml of milk
  • 2 Tbsp of rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp of baking powder
  • 1 tsp of paprika powder
  • 1 tsp of smoked paprika powder
  • 1 tsp of garlic powder
